Welcome to West End - Beltline

A revitalized loop of trendy urban neighborhoods where Atlanta comes together

Encircling some of Atlanta’s best neighborhoods, including this historic West End, the Atlanta Beltline is a 26-mile loop surrounding inner Atlanta. Along the Beltline, urban areas have been revitalized with trendy restaurants and unique boutiques, and most of the neighborhoods emanate a hip, sophisticated vibe. Homes are fabulously rehabilitated and restored, and the energetic, bustling atmosphere is melded well with a sense of emerging luxury.

West End, in particular, is one neighborhood along the Beltline whose diversity, community engagement, and convivial identity allow it to truly shine. West End is adjacent to some of Atlanta’s top colleges, including Morehead and Spelman Colleges. Its proximity to downtown Atlanta makes it a great location to commute from and work.

A mix of burgeoning vitality and old historic charm, West End is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has residential housing that spans many aesthetics. The homes here are packed with character and range from chic 1920s bungalows to completely renovated Craftsman homes and upscale condos.

What to Love

  • Near several highways and transportation routes, like I-20 and I-75/85
  • Expansive trail system for walking and exploring some of the area’s best neighborhoods
  • Right in the heart of Atlanta, yet just 15 minutes from the Hartsfield-Atlanta Airport
  • Home to the Atlanta University Center Consortium, the largest and oldest association of historically black universities in the world

People & Lifestyle

Bike and pedestrian-friendly, the Atlanta Beltline and West End are all about getting out into the community and embracing the city’s beauty. Residents in these areas are highly committed to reinvigorating their city, and their dedication pays off in spades. Tree-lined streets, plentiful parks, and a neighborly attitude all make West End an ideal place for families.

Dining, Shopping, & Entertainment

As a constantly growing development, the Beltline is home to fun new shops, retail centers, and the area’s best restaurants. One of the latest additions to the loop, SPX Alley is home to many fitness centers, barbers, and apparel stores.

Along the Beltline’s southern edges, West End has a collection of impressive restaurants that draw in diners from all over the city. Plant-powered food and a fashionable aesthetic are the trademarks of The Slutty Vegan, whose delicious yet healthful vegan burgers will satisfy your every craving. Slim and Husky’s is a nearby Atlanta classic, and their savory menu of gourmet pizzas in exciting combinations is hard to beat. Known as the neighborhood farm stand, Aluma Farm provides West End residents with locally grown, always-fresh produce.

An appealing feature of West End is its bevy of institutions dedicated to cultural education and historic preservation, such as The Wren’s Nest. This beautiful historic center seeks to preserve the heritage of African American folklore through storytelling, tours, and opportunities for students to publish written works.

Things to Do

Being at the pulse of the state’s biggest city has its perks. The ability to enjoy a plethora of events, activities, and areas of cultural significance is one of the major draws of living in West End and along the Beltline. Whether it’s attending concerts, diving into retail locations, attending sports games, or meeting with friends for a drink in breweries like Monday Night Brewing, West End has plenty to offer in the way of entertainment.

The Sweet Auburn Music Festival is frequently lauded as one of the premier urban music fests in the country and is entirely free. Three days of nonstop performances from nationally recognized musicians across multiple genres are accompanied by incredible food vendors, artists, and local shops. The official home of the Atlanta Falcons, the Mercedes Benz Arena is often packed with sports enthusiasts enjoying a game or thousands of attendees taking part in a special event, concert, or performance hosted in the arena.

Schools

West End Beltline is home to several excellent schools. Top educational opportunities include:

  • Morehouse College: private, historically black all-male liberal arts university offering some of the top programs in the nation
  • Spelman College: private, historically black women’s liberal arts university with a focus on academic excellence and status as a global leader in education
