Welcome to McDonough

A suburban dreamscape with a rise in new single-family homes

McDonough’s classic, American-suburb atmosphere is hard to resist, and this peaceful city rests only 35 minutes south of Atlanta. Considered part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area, McDonough is close enough to provide a viable living option for commuters and yet feels worlds away from the city’s urban density.

McDonough was established in 1823 around a conventional town-square design and since then has maintained its historic charm and downtown district. Modern McDonough is a family-friendly suburb of just under 25,000 residents who all get to relish in the quiet streets, active community, and scenic natural beauty.

The majority of homes in McDonough are new-builds, which means buyers have the benefit of modern amenities and mixed-styled architecture when it comes to choosing their residence. With a median price point hovering in the $200,000 range, many luxury houses are available within the area.

What to Love

  • Excellent public school system and educational offerings
  • Community-focused lifestyle with a serene, tight-knit feel
  • Ample new-builds and lots available for custom homes

People & Lifestyle

McDonough is incredibly family-oriented, and a great perk of living in this area is the city’s always-full social calendar. When residents aren’t strolling the tree-lined streets of their neighborhood or perusing the shops downtown, they’re taking advantage of the constant myriad of annual festivals and monthly events.

Dining, Shopping, & Entertainment

In and around McDonough’s idyllic downtown district are a great number of local shops, boutiques, and restaurants. Here, you can browse everything from antiques at Planters Antique Mall to men’s fashion apparel at Black Tie Formal Wear to imported high-quality cigars at The Cigar Bank.

McDonough’s restaurant scene is vibrant and growing, and residents have the luxury of choosing between a host of different culinary fares. Right across from the town square, Southern Roots is an adored community must-try where live music concerts meld with sumptuous tavern food. Serving American casual fare in a relaxed and quaint, 50s-style diner environment, KirbyG’s Diner has won multiple awards for their fresh-off-the-grill burgers.

Get your fill of handmade pasta and gourmet pizzas at the sit-down restaurant, Pasta Max. An intimate atmosphere and the freshest ingredients have garnered Pasta Max favor among daters and couples looking for a romantic dinner together. Right next door to Pasta Max is Scoops Ice Cream, where house-made ice creams in over 30 flavors are just the start. The store is also stocked with wall-to-wall candy and a case of sweet treats, with something new to try every visit.

Things to Do

McDonough Square is constantly flurrying with activity and is an essential source of community engagement for its residents. The district hosts monthly events such as Ladies Night Out on the second Tuesday of every month and annual festivals like the Geranium Festival.

For residents who prefer to spend their time outdoors in the solitude and beauty of nature, McDonough offers up its array of parks, green spaces, and recreational facilities. Lake Dow is a stunning escape into a bygone era where life moved at a slower pace. Right next to its shores, the splendid Heritage Park houses a historic village, 129 acres of green space, sports fields, playgrounds, and an arena for entertainment.

McDonough’s position adjacent to Hampton, Georgia puts it within twenty minutes of two of the state's prime attractions: The Atlanta Motor Speedway and the Georgia State Fair. The former has hosted NASCAR Cup Series, while the latter has been home to one of the state’s biggest events for 164 years. Rides, magic shows, a circus, vendors, booths, live music, and pig races are just the beginning of this epic 11-day fair that brings in more than half a million visitors.
